"9/11 Lacrimosa - Day of Weeping"

The original image came to Angel while she was sending healing to Ground Zero after the events of 9/11, while she was praying for those who had died, their families and for those who were faced with the monumentally difficult task of searching and clearing the site. She executed some sketches, based on media images and newspaper clippings, but hesitated to paint the actual work so close to the events that has had such an impact on the world. Eventually, she realized that it could offer hope and inspiration to many.
Produced on high quality paper, the print is available in two sizes:

Each print comes with a copy of the following poem, with the same title as the painting, written by Angel shortly after 9/11. 

The sky is grey today
All the colours are gone
Our dream have been blow apart
And there’s a silence – a sad, dampening silence

The whole world seems hushed.
In the distance a church bell
Tolls its sorrowful, grieving tone.
There is nothing, now
But the wind, and the dust
And the stark remains of magnificence.

We cannot understand why
We have a thousand questions
But no answer would suffice
Evil visited us, here
And left its vile trail
Through the middle of our lives.
We will never be the same again

Yet through this blackness
There shines a muted light
The coming together
To weep, to mourn
There’s nothing more we can do, for now

Yet we will rise
As surely as their souls rise to heaven
We will become strong again
And yes, stronger, still, for this
For now we know we can endure
And remain noble.
We can never be defeated

Yes, today is our Day of Weeping -
But tomorrow we begin again…
